Abrasive materials

Silicon carbide abrasives are produced in high-temperature electric furnaces, combining silicon and carbon to form extremely hard crystalline structures. These materials are ideal for machining low tensile strength materials and high hardness components.

Green silicon carbide
High purity, extremely sharp and brittle. Ideal for carbide, ceramics, glass and precision grinding.
Dark silicon carbide
Higher toughness and durability. Suitable for cast iron, aluminum and aggressive grinding operations.

Grain size & performance

Grain size directly determines chip removal and surface finish. Coarse grains enable aggressive material removal, while fine grains provide high-quality finishes.

Coarse (8–24)
High removal rate
Medium (30–60)
Balanced performance
Fine (80–220)
Surface finishing

Hardness & structure

Wheel hardness defines grain retention and self-sharpening behavior. Correct selection ensures optimal cutting efficiency and prevents overheating or premature wear.

Soft (E–H)
Fast cutting, high wear
Medium (I–P)
Balanced behavior
Hard (Q–V)
Long life, lower removal

Structure ranges from 0 (very dense) to 12 (high porosity), affecting chip evacuation and cooling performance.

Bonding systems

Vitrified bond (V)
Ceramic structure, high rigidity, chemical resistance and dimensional stability.
Resinoid bond (B)
Elastic bond, higher speed capability and shock absorption.

Operating parameters

Peripheral speed is a critical factor for safety and performance:

  • Vitrified wheels: up to 33 m/s
  • Resinoid wheels: up to 48 m/s
  • Incorrect speed may cause overheating or wheel failure
